AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – An 18-year-old Pontiac man faces a maximum penalty of life in prison, if convicted after being charged Friday with eight counts of armed robbery and three counts of possession of a firearm.
Police said Derrick Devon Coleman was arrested Wednesday for an armed robbery in the 1000 block of Doris Road in Auburn Hills. The victim said Coleman threatened him with a gun and stole his cellphone.

Coleman is accused of running away and stealing a bicycle. Officers caught him in the 500 block of Lancaster Lane in Pontiac, and he was arrested without incident.
After the arrest, Coleman was identified as a suspect in a string of armed robberies in the area dating back to Oct. 23. The robberies took place in the 1400 block of Opdyke Road, where two hotel clerks and a citizen were robbed.
One victim suffered minor injuries during the string of robberies.

Coleman was arraigned Wednesday on the armed robbery and possession of a firearm charges. He faces a maximum possible penalty of life in prison for the armed robbery charges, if convicted.
Coleman also faces a two-year sentence for the possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony charges, if convicted. The two-year sentence precedes any time imposed for the felony conviction.
Coleman is being held on $500,000 bail. A pre-exam conference is scheduled for Dec. 1.
