Proposed gun range approved near elementary school in New Hudson

Gun range to be built near Dolsen Elementary School

NEW HUDSON, Mich. – A proposed gun range near an elementary school in New Hudson was given the green light Monday despite concerns over its proximity to the school.

Hundreds of people in Lyon Township signed a petition to stop the indoor gun range from being approved. Opponents were concerned that it would be too close to Dolsen Elementary School at Grand River and Milford roads.

But the board of trustees approved the gun range even after hearing from the people who were against it. Many others argued for the idea, saying a gun range is a safe place.

Opponents said it's not about the right to bear arms, but the location and the safety of children.

Owners of Huron Valley Guns showed off the plans for their new state of the art firearms facility, which would be built about 750 feet away from the school's playground.
