Redford police release description of man in attempted abduction of girl

Man has bird tattoo on left forearm, last seen driving newer model black car with tinted windows

REDFORD, Mich. – Redford Township police on Friday released the sketch of a man they're looking for in the attempted abduction of a 9-year-old girl at a bus stop near the corner of Lenore and Pilgrim at around 8:30 a.m.

Police said the man drove up to the girl in a black four-door Buick with tinted windows and told her he was the bus driver, and to get in.

Police say the little girl did everything right. When he started to get out of the car, she screamed and ran away.

The man drove off north on Lenore Avenue.

"The little girl was fantastic," said Sgt. Kevin Crittenden. "She wouldn't get into the car, she wouldn't approach the car, she knew to keep her distance from the person."

The neighborhood says this incident crossed the line. The girl's father says she was shaken up by the incident and cries all the time in school.

Many in the neighborhood say they've seen a person and a car that matches the descriptions in this case.

Police describe the man as black, 30 to 40 years old with short black hair, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds. He has a eagle or other bird tattoo on his left forearm and was last seen wearing cargo shorts.

Redford police say the description of this man matches one from another attempted abduction.

Anyone with information is asked to call Redford Township police at 313-387-2551.
