Roseville man charged with OWI, manslaughter in deadly high-speed crash in Detroit

DETROIT – A 31-year-old Roseville man is accused of driving while intoxicated when his vehicle crashed into another early Monday morning, killing the 26-year-old driver on Detroit's east side.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Johnathon Horton was traveling on Chalmers Street when he struck Jerrica Hicks' vehicle near Mayfield Street. Hicks and a passenger in Horton's vehicle were rushed to a nearby hospital. Hicks, of Nashville, Tenn., died from her injuries.

Detroit police said the woman's Dodge Neon was hit head-on by a driver in a pickup at about 2 a.m. Monday. The pickup was traveling nearly 100 miles per hour, police said. 

Horton was arrested after the crash. He is now charged with operating while under the influence and causing death, and manslaughter motor vehicle. He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon. His next court date is June 3. Meanwhile, he is being held at the Wayne County Jail.
