Series of crashes on I-94 kills one, injures two

An off-duty officer is injured after stopping to assist in a crash

DETROIT – The Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly crash in Detroit  that happened around 2:50 a.m. Saturday morning. 

A 37-year-old man from Lincoln Park died after he was struck by a vehicle in the west bound lanes of I-94 near Mt. Elliot.

The 37-year-old man was outside his car asking for assistance after an earlier crash had disabled his vehicle.

A passenger of one of the vehicles was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

An off-duty Detroit Police officer had stopped to assist the Lincoln Park resident and was also injured in the series of accidents. He was transported to St. John's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.
