Sheriff raids Warren car rental shop

Marks One Car Rental owner is suing Sheriff's Office for allegedly steering away business

WARREN, Mich. – Waad Younan was at work Wednesday morning inside Marks One Car Rental on 8 Mile Road when undercover police stormed in with guns drawn.

"They came in, 'Everybody, you have to lay on the ground, put your hands in front,'" said Younan, who is a manager at Marks.

Owner Mark Waad said he is out of the country but also said raids also went down at his neighboring companies and at his Shelby Township home.

"They've damaged my house. They've damaged all my businesses," he said.

The bust is being conducted by the Macomb Auto Theft Squad.

"They're thinking there are stolen cars in there. There's nothing in there. Everything's on camera, when they came and raided, everything's on camera" he said.

Waad said he is involved in a bitter battle with major insurance companies. He has filed a $25 million lawsuit against them and the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. The suit claims insurance companies are steering business away from his collision and rental companies and that Sheriff's investigators are harassing him.

However, sources say those same insurance companies being billed by Marks One are blowing the whistle on the business for allegedly overbilling on collision work.

Meanwhile, customers who have cars at the business for body work can't get them.

"If I see something get raided that my car's in, it's gonna be a problem," said Sade Franklin, whose sister's car is in the shop.
