Shooter kills 2 before dragging body mile and a half underneath car

DETROIT – Detroit police say two men were killed Sunday morning when a man showed up to the home they were at on the east side and started shooting.

The gunman first chased 27-year-old Demetrius Gatson and shot him. Gatson's family says he died at the hospital about six hours after the incident.

Police say the gunman also shot 33-year-old Khari Smith five times and sped away from the scene, dragging Smith's body for a mile and a half underneath his car. Police followed a trail of evidence and found Smith's body.

Mt. Elliot Street was closed from Warren Avenue to I-94 to investigate the scene. Police were at the scene for hours and say it's one of the most gruesome crime scenes they've ever had to investigate.

The victims' cousin, Lennard Gatson, says it was the worst thing he's ever seen.

The family says police were told who the gunman is. Stay tuned to ClickOnDetroit.com for updates.
