Shots reported along major highways in southwestern Michigan

Incidents occurred between July 29 and Aug. 21

TEKONSHA, Mich. – Authorities in southwestern Michigan are investigating reports of shots being fired at cars on Interstate 94 and Interstate 69.

The Calhoun County sheriff's office says the damage is being blamed on "projectiles." But a closer look at some vehicles confirms that damage is related to gunshots.

"There's indications that make us believe that those involve gunfire as well," said Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton. "At this point it does appear they're all connected together -- whether that's one person doing it or multiple people."

The incidents occurred between July 29 and Aug. 21 in Calhoun and Branch counties. No injuries have been reported.

Saxton believes whatever is happening, it is intentional. Based on the vehicle damage, he said it's unclear if the shooter or shooters are in a vehicle or on the side of the road.

"Some are from the side, some are from the front end, so it's different angles," he said. "Some of them had vehicles by them, some of them there was no vehicles in front of them or behind them or on the other side of the highway."

Officers from many agencies are working on the case. Anyone with information can call 269-781-9700.
