'Sleepy' SMART bus driver charged with moving violation

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – Leon Rasheed told reporters Wednesday he had no comment about the October crash in which the SMART bus he was driving struck several vehicles on Maple Road in West Bloomfield.

Video from the bus shows Rasheed slam on the brakes and try to swerve before the bus hit a lineup of vehicles. The driver told police officers he had fallen asleep just before the crash.

Two people were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The lone passenger on the bus was not injured.

On his way into court Wednesday, reporters asked Rasheed, 65, if he had anything to say to the people involved in the crash.

"I'm sorry," he said.
