2 men killed when one sets both on fire at SW Detroit house

DETROIT – Arson investigators were at a house Friday in southwest Detroit where a fire killed two people.

Two men were killed in the fire Friday morning and investigators believe it was no accident. Sources tell Local 4 one man in his 40s poured gas on his partner and on himself before lighting the fire.

Family members have identified one of the men as 22-year-old Edward Pickle Jr., of southwest Detroit. They say Pickle was killed by his partner.

"One person was upset with his partner and poured accelerant on him and threw a match, apparently," said Assistant Police Chief Steven Dolunt. "Unfortunately, when he did it, it caused a trail that came back to their body and they were engulfed in flames as well."

Pickle's father said he's not so sure his son was in a relationship with the man. He said his son had been talking about having issues with the man for days.

"I know he was just having problems. Every time he would come in this area he'd say he was having problems with a guy over here," said Pickle's father.

The house is in the 4700 block of Springwells.
