HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – A person suspected of abducting and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl on her way to school is in police custody, Highland Park police announced Wednesday.
During a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Highland Park Police Chief Kevin Coney said the man was arrested about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in Jackson, Mich.
Coney said the man, a resident of Detroit, was on his way back from Chicago. He was at a bus station in Jackson.
The chief said tips and help from community members helped locate this suspect. He said some comments made on social media helped, too.
"It takes a village. Without their help, we wouldn't be this far," said Coney. "There was some social media involved, some messages that were going back and forth and after investigating we found that they were true. We did go to a bus stop where we located the suspect."
