SOUTH LYON, Mich. – South Lyon police arrested a 52-year-old man this week who, police said, stole a car from a subdivision with a 1-year-old boy inside.
The boy's father had parked the car and left it running while he went into the boy's grandfather's house to see if he had left the child's shoes. He came out to find the car gone.
However, the thief didn't get far after he saw the boy. He ditched the car, but he left his cellphone in the vehicle. Police were able to set up a perimeter and catch him. He had stolen the man's cigarettes and wallet with cash inside.
Police said he confessed to stealing a car last week from the South Lyon Village Bakery. He is a resident of South Lyon with a long criminal history.
The man is expected to be arraigned on charged this week.
