Southfield carjacking victim says he survived by telling gunmen he's a dad

Durell Foster is father of 6

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Durell Foster is a father of six who fell victim to a carjacking early Wednesday morning in Southfield.

Foster was headed to a gas station about 3 a.m. Wednesday when a car pulled up beside him and flashed a blue light. He said he thought they were police.

"The police lights were inside the windshield ... they were like police lights," he said.

Suddenly, three men armed with a shotgun got out of the car ordered him to strip out of his clothes as they stole his black 2006 Porsche Cayenne.

"I just thought it was the police," he said.

But it was a carjacking. Four men ordered him to the ground and told him to remove his clothes. He removed his belt, his pants and his Air Jordan shoes.

Foster, 30, said he believes the only reason he survived the robbery is because he told the gunmen he is a father.

"I got babies. I got daughters. That's all I was thinking. I just kept telling him I got a daughter. He said, 'I am not going to do nothing to you,'" said Foster.

Police said the suspects are black men between 18 and 24 years old.

From police:

The suspect with the shotgun had light skin, short hair, and no facial hair. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and jeans. There is no further description available of the other suspects. The shotgun had a long barrel and was all black.

The license plate on the stolen black Porsche Cayenne is MI/DQH5989.
