Detroit EMT: 'He pulled the knife out and slashed my partner'

Rojas spoke to Local 4 Wednesday after he was released from the hospital.

"He pulled the knife out and slashed my partner and I stepped in to try to help her out," Rojas said. "I felt him hit my face and I thought it was just a punch. I didn't know he actually slashed me. I think the adrenaline kicked in. It wasn't until the whole thing was done that I realized my hand was cut and I was really bleeding bad from my face."

Rojas nearly lost his right eye in the attack.

Adams was also released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Aside from some numbness in his hands, Rojas said he's feeling good and is thankful for the outpouring of support that's been shown by the community.

"We feel the love from everybody," he said.

Rojas said he's not sure he'll be back on the job, but he will.

Man charged in Detroit EMTs attack charged in 2006 slaying

Police say it's a stunning coincidence: A murder charge in a 2006 cold case was filed just hours before the same man attacked two Detroit emergency medical technicians.

Montgomery was arrested Tuesday night. Sgt. Lance Sullivan of the cold case squad said investigators began looking for him Monday after DNA tests linked Montgomery to the sexual assault and murder of a 16-year-old girl nearly 10 years ago.

Sullivan said he was "shocked" when investigators learned the same man was suspected in the EMT stabbings.
