Teenage girl in critical condition after shooting on Detroit's west side

15-year-old girl hospitalized after shooting on Hazelwood Street

DETROIT – A 15-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot Saturday night on Detroit's west side.

The shooting happened in the 3200 block of Hazelwood Street, which is south of Joy Road.

It's unclear how the teen was shot. Police are focusing their attention on a house. When they arrived, they found the teen bleeding from a single gunshot to the shoulder.

Neighbors told Local 4 News they did not hear any rounds going off.

"Her statement is not matching up with the scene just yet," Capt. John Svec said. "She said she was standing outside looking at the scene. That's not what happened.

The teen does not live in the area. Police said she was visiting someone.

Sources said she was inside the house with another person, who is believed to be her boyfriend. But with the teen not cooperating, she might be protecting someone.

No one is in custody as police continue to figure out exactly how what led to this teenager getting shot.
