Thieves on bikes breaking into homes in Dearborn Heights

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Neighbors in Dearborn Heights did not want to appear on camera, but they say they've seen a young person biking away shortly after a home is broken into.
One victim says he was robbed twice in less than a week. The first time he was robbed, the thief broke his back window. He says the person took his computer monitor, television and jewelry. The robbery happened last Tuesday when he wasn't home.

He's lived near Evergreen and Warren for 20 years, but he was stunned to discover he'd been robbed again on Monday. This time, the thief smashed through the back door.

The home invasions have neighbors in the area buying alarms and surveillance systems. Dearborn Heights police say there have been three home invasions in the area over the last two months. Police also said thieves are targeting homes where no one appears to be home.

Neighbors say that's exactly what thieves will keep doing.

Dearborn Heights police say they have some leads on the case and will continue to have a visible presence in that area during the investigation.

Investigators are starting to see a pattern emerge. The robberies happen during the daytime, and the person knocks at the door before breaking in.

Authorities are reminding people to be on the lookout for any suspicious behavior.
