Thieves target popular Midtown Detroit restaurant Selden Standard

Men stole safe and loaded it into garbage bin

DETROIT – Detroit police are on the hunt for two men who stole a safe from the popular Midtown Detroit restaurant Selden Standard.

Police said two men on Monday morning broke through the back door of the restaurant on Second Avenue and Selden Street. With the alarm going off, the men grabbed a safe and loaded it into a garbage bin.

The men dragged the garbage bin for a couple blocks, threw a jacket over it and ran off, likely with the hope of coming back for it, police said.

But when police responded to the restaurant, a K-9 picked up the scent and led officers to the safe, which still had all $13,000 inside. The safe has been returned to the restaurant.

Police said surveillance video captured two men carrying backpacks and wearing jogging suits.

Officials are continuing to investigate.
