Three men charged in Detroit officer's shooting

DETROIT – Three men have been charged in connection to the shooting of a Detroit police officer Saturday morning during a drug raid on the city's west side.

Police say the gunman shot through a metal door with what police are calling a "high powered weapon," injuring the officer's leg with flying shrapnel.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the officer, an 18-year veteran with the department, is expected to be OK.

Five people, inclding the suspected shooter, were arrested over the weekend.

Deyshawn Hollis-James, 21, is accused of firing shots at the officer. He is charged with four counts of assault with intent to murder, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, and felony firearm.

Deonte Hollis, 24, has been charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, operating a drug house, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm. Christopher Carson, 30, has been charged with two counts of felonious assault, felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of resisting and obstrusting, and felony firearm.

All three were arraigned Tuesday. They are scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Nov.r 10 and a preliminary examination on Nov. 17. Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King.

Hollis-James received a $250,000 cash/surety bond. Deonte Hollis and Carson each received a $25,000 or 10 percent bond.
