Local 4 has confirmed Courser filed the paper work to enter the special election.
The Republican resigned from the Michigan House last week after a scandal over an extramarital affair with fellow representative Cindy Gamrat, which included a bizarre cover-up attempt.
He talked with Local 4 on Friday, saying he knows no one has failed in politics as big as he has, but he remains optimistic.
"I am absolutely confident that God has a plan for me and a redemptive story. I don't know what that is. I really felt like the voters should have had the opportunity to decide," said Courser.
Gamrat was expelled shortly after Courser's resignation. She announced her plans to seek re-election in Michigan's 80th House district on Thursday.
Courser made a second post to his Facebook page on Friday in an effort to explain why he is planning to run again. You can read that post here.
