Triple shooting at Detroit gas station kills 21-year-old man

Homicide detectives investigate

DETROIT – Detroit homicide detectives were busy overnight investigating a shooting at the Valero gas station at 7 Mile Road and Pierson Street.

Windshield glass was strewn across the ground beside pump No. 2 Thursday morning. Five men were sitting in a black Chevrolet Uplander minivan just after 11 p.m. Wednesday. Two men came up behind the van from a hair salon next door and started shooting in the van, police said.

Shell casings littered the ground as Detroit police cordoned off the scene Wednesday night. Investigators said two 21-year-old men were shot in the back of the head. One of them died. The other is in stable condition.

A 31-year-old man also was shot but his condition is not known.

Once the gunfire stopped, another man in the van apparently jumped behind the wheel and drove everyone to Sinai-Grace Hospital, which is about 4 miles from the gas station. He delivered the bleeding men to the emergency room.

However, police said the survivors left the hospital right away.

Security cameras recorded the whole incident. Homicide detectives are reviewing the video and looking for clues about who the shooters were and why they opened fire.
