The cats' owner said that the cats had been in the tree since Wednesday and would not come down after numerous attempts at coaxing them down.

The owner called the Troy Fire Department looking for help.

A 24-foot extension ladder was used by Staff Assistant Matt Adams who was able to rescue one of the cats.

The second cat wasn't so easy to get.

Adams called Public Works Manager Kurt Bovensiep to find someone with climbing gear.  Bovensiep offered to assist.

Bovensiep couldn't catch the cat, but successfully persuaded her down to lower limbs.

The cat jumped from the tree to the roof of a car and ran straight for home.

The 1-year-old cats, Chloe and Zhoe, are safe with their grateful owner.

The Troy Fire Department said that they do not routinely respond to cats in trees but if available they will respond to assist in removing pets from harm.
