Truck rolls over guard rail into Clinton River causes fatality in Waterford Township

Truck hits construction solar-powered trailer, rolls over guard rail

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A crash investigation is underway Monday morning, where a vehicle rolled over causing a fatality in Waterford Township.

The crash happened at about 1 a.m. on Hatchery Road, near Dixie Highway, where a truck rolled over a guard rail.

A witness called 911 after watching a 2007 silver GMC Sierra lose control coming out of the curve west of Edmore Road. The truck hit a construction solar-powered trailer and rolled over the guard rail.

Part of the vehicle became partially submerged in the Clinton River.

Both the driver and the passenger were trapped inside the vehicle.

A 22-year-old Waterford man was conscious and speaking when emergency crews arrived on the scene and was extricated.

Police said the driver, a 20-year-old Milford man, was trapped inside and submerged under water. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor.
