Utica student diagnosed with tuberculosis

UTICA, Mich. – A student at a Utica Community Schools high school has been diagnosed with tuberculosis, said a spokesman from the Macomb County Health Department.

The student shares time between Utica High School and Sterling Heights Stevenson High School. Letters were sent home with students at both schools.

The Health Department said the male student is being treated and is not in school. There is no threat to students and staff now.

However, health and school officials are working to identify the students and staff members with whom the student had contact. Skin testing will be performed over the next couple of weeks.

There will be extra cleaning at the schools.
