Vehicle runs over geese in Macomb County; police seek driver

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Macomb County Animal Control says Clinton Township police are pursuing a "person of interest" for running over and killing several geese Thursday evening on northbound Gratiot Avenue at Wellington Crescent.

A vehicle barreled through a flock of 30 geese and did not stop.

The driver could be charged with animal cruelty if police can prove the collision was intentional. However, police say, if it was an accident there is no law that required the driver to stop after unintentionally hitting an animal.

"These poor geese were still alive, they were laying there bleeding, it was horrible," said Lynn Anderson, who witnessed the collision.

Animal Control says five geese died and one had to be euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.

Anyone with information on this needs to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Animal Control division at 586-469-5115.
