Veteran who went missing in Detroit found safe in Troy

Richard Furdock apparently walked north after leaving Veterans Affairs Hospital in Detroit

DETROIT – A 59-year-old veteran who went missing this week after being dropped off at a hospital in Detroit has been found safe in Troy.

Richard Furdock went missing after he had shown up for an appointment Monday morning at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Detroit -- but his appointment had been canceled.

Authorities were concerned about Furdock because he suffers from mental illness and lives in a group home in New Haven.

Furdock was found Wednesday at a church in Troy. He had apparently walked the whole way.

He was reunited with relatives and returned to his home.
