Wanted man offers to turn himself in if Redford Township police get 1,000 shares on Facebook post

Redford Township police accept challenge as post gets thousands of shares

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man wanted on several warrants began taunting Redford Township police on Facebook saying he would turn himself in if the post reached 1,000 shares.

As of 1 p.m., the post has nearly 4,000 shares.

According to posts on the Redford Township Facebook page, the man known on social media as Champagne Torino, and continuously trolls authorities. Police said they know the man's real name but won't release it until he's been taken into custody.

In one post, police threatened to block him from posting to the page due to “veiled threats” and an “inability to engage in constructive dialogue.”

Torino sent a privet Facebook message to the police department saying that if their next post got one thousand shares, he would turn himself in, bring a dozen doughnuts and clean up public schools in the area.

The Redford Township Police Department accepted the man’s challenge and posted his message to their Facebook page.

“Help us win this challenge and clean up blight in Redford at the same time,” the post reads.

Police commended the community for their support Friday.

"He may or may not be a man of his word," the post reads. "The important thing to be seen here is the support of the community."

According to police, the man still hasn't turned himself in. He is wanted for several local misdemeanors.
