Warren's fireworks rules are stricter than most metro Detroit communities

WARREN, Mich. – Business was popping Thursday evening inside a fireworks store on Van Dyke Road in Warren.

Fireworks are a big deal in Michigan ever since a law was passed in 2011 that made it OK to discharge consumer fireworks in the state. While there are rules when using them, the rules for the city of Warren are stricter than most.

The mayor of Warren says if you don't follow the rules you could get blasted with a $500 fine.

"There is not an acceptable place to shoot fireworks off in a residential neighborhood that won't perhaps start your home on fire, won't upset your pets or people that have served in the military," said Mayor Jim Faust.

Mayor Faust has been handing out flyers all week listing, what he says, are seven important rules to abide by, including an 11 p.m. curfew and not discharging them within 30 feet of a house, structure or landscaping.

"So the whole purpose is we wanna have a safe and peaceful 4th of July. Have fun but be very cautious when using alcohol," said the mayor.
