Following the Supreme Court decision striking down gay marriage bans, Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear directed county clerk's to honor the Supreme Court ruling and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

"Effective [June 26], Kentucky will recognize as valid all same-sex marriages performed in other states and in Kentucky," Gov. Beshear wrote in a statement after the Court released its ruling. "I have instructed the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives to provide revised marriage license forms to our county clerks for immediate use, beginning today."

Davis' staff told Moore and his partner that they could go to another county for a license, but they wouldn't issue them one.
