Woman arrested after Berkley chase; trooper hurt responding to scene

Michigan State Police trooper pursued woman for traffic violation

BERKLEY, Mich. – A woman is in jail, and a trooper is in the hospital after a chase and a crash in Berkley.

Michigan State Police said troopers tried to stop the woman in a white Volvo for a traffic violation near Woodward and Coolidge, but she took off.

She pulled over behind a building in the 3200 block of Coolidge Avenue and tried to run, police said.

During a confrontation with officers, she became combative and officers used a stun gun on her.

In the woman's car, police said they found a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun that was not registered to her.

Further investigation revealed that the driver's license was suspended and there was no insurance on the car.

Trooper responding to scene crashes

As a trooper approached the intersection of Coolidge Avenue and 11 Mile Road, he slowed to clear the intersection, and after traffic stopped on 11 Mile Road and Coolidge, the trooper continued through the intersection and was struck in the rear passenger door by a 2010 Mercury Milan travelling westbound on 11 Mile Road. Both the trooper and the driver of the Milan were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and released.
