Family claims Batina Jackson acted in self-defense

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A 29-year-old woman was arraigned on an assault with intent to murder charge Tuesday afternoon in connection with the stabbing of man she met on the Internet.

Batina Jackson, 29, of Roseville, is charged with assault with intent to murder.

Police said Jackson met a 39-year-old man online who she asked to commit to a serious relationship after just a couple of dates. The man was stabbed nine times in his back and neck. Police responded to a home in the 29800 block of Utica Road in Roseville Sunday evening at about 6:30 p.m.

The man is listed in serious condition and is expected to recover.

Jackson was arrested and is being held at the Macomb County Jail. She was arraigned Tuesday and stood mute. Her bond was set at $250,000.

Jackson's mother says she acted in self defense.

"My daughter used poor judgement in allowing him to come over but that's what she did wrong. After that, she was fighting for her life. When you have someone physically assaulting you and sexually assaulting you, you're gonna fight back. The truth is gonna come out. This so called victim is not a victim but I need my daughter to stay strong," said Alicia Mcmiller, the mother of the suspect.

She said her daughter was also injured in the incident and that Jackson met the victim a while ago and he "attacked her" back then too.

Jackson made headlines last year after she said she was scammed out of a car on Craigslist

She will be back in court for a probable cause hearing on January 25.
