Car plows into crowd in Ferndale; woman in critical condition

Police continue search for suspect

FERNDALE, Mich. – A woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident that took place in Ferndale, around 2:15 a.m. Saturday.

Ferndale police say a 31-year-old woman was crossing Woodward on 9 Mile with a group of friends when an older car, described to possibly be a Mecury Sable, went toward the group.

The group of friends attempted to run from the oncoming vehicle, who police say had a green light, but the female victim was unable to get out of the way in time, and was hit head-on.

Authorities say the driver then fled the scene.

In a surveillance video taken from a nearby store, the driver of the car can be seen pulling out of the parking lot which sits behind the Twisted Tavern at Withington and Woodward. The suspect then begins to drive southbound on Woodward.

Dashcam video from an officer performing an unrelated traffic stop shows the suspect driving by moments before hitting the victim.

Police say the female victim is a resident of Sterling Heights. She was taken to Beaumont Royal Oak hospital in critical condition and is said to have bleeding in the brain.

A witness described the driver to be a white male, between 30-40 years old, with a full head of black hair.

Police say the car may be an older model Mercury Sable with front and rear taillight damage.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the driver, contact Ferndale police at  (248) 541-3650.
