Woman killed by suspected drunk driver in Frenchtown Twp.

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Monroe County police say a 58-year-old Monroe woman was killed Saturday night when she was hit by a car while walking along N. Dixie Highway, south of Baycrest Drive, in Frenchtown Township.

Investigators say Pamela A. Valley was walking southbound along N. Dixie Highway when she was hit from behind by a southbound passenger car. The driver continued southbound along Dixie without stopping at the scene.

Moments later, a 48-year-old Monroe man called police and admitted being involved in the incident. Police responded to an address on Monrona Drive in Detroit Beach and found the driver, who cooperated with the investigation.

A tan 1999 Ford Escort was also found at the home and had damage on the front end.

Valley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was uninjured, but police arrested him on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

The crash is being investigated by the Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7493.
