Woman proves disibility won't stand in way of living life

Kimberly Clawford was accidently shot at a party in 2008

It was February 2008 when Kimberly Crawfords life changed forever.

"I was at a friends party when a friend was pulling a gun out to put it away in a dresser and it went out," said Crawford. "And I happened to be standing right there and got shot in the back."

The doctors told Crawford she would likely never walk again.

"I was angry at first and didn't want to talk to anyone," said Crawford. "But God kept me here for a reason."

Kimberly's daughter was 4 years old at the time of the shooting, she's 13 years old now, and  she's what Crawford lives for.

"If it wasn't for her I might not be here right now," she said.

The encouragement Kimberly received from physical therapy, helped turn her life around and do things she thought she couldn't anymore.

"I started cutting he grass in 2009," said Crawford. "I would start and my arm would get too tired but last year I thought ya know my moms getting older, let me see if I can do it."

Sure enough, she did.

"I wrap ace bandages around my ankles and the chair so my feet don't slip out and get cut by the blade," said Crawford.

Together, Kimberly and her mother, 61 year old Sharon Crawford not only keep the lawn looking good, but keep each other strong.

"I truly, truly ached," said Sharon. "In hurt so bad and the guy only got a slap on the wrist."

Local 4 learned about Kimberly's inspiring story after her neighbor Vicky Coleman posted this photo to the WDIV Facebook page.
