Prosecutor Worthy gives Wayne County jail audit report to grand jury
Auditor General's report on failed county jail project now in hands of grand jury; everyone else is barred from seeing it

DETROIT – Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has given the auditor general's audit into the failed Wayne County jail project to a one-man grand jury, which means no one else will be able to view it.
A court order of protection prohibits "any and all copies" of the audit report from being publicly disclosed. The grand jury is asked to conduct a judicial investigation into alleged neglect of duty by a public official, conspiracy, fraud, misconduct and false statements relating to public finances and/or financial conditions within the county.
The new jail project was stopped after it was revealed it was more than $100 million over budget. Auditor General Willie Mayo put together a 150-page report that allegedly details wrongdoings in the jail construction project.
However, Prosecutor Worthy stepped in to do her own investigation. She received the report from Mayo and said her office was conducting its own investigation into the jail project.
