It is not common to see severe weather in February, but it's not unheard of.
Note from NWS: A warm and moist airmass will work into the area Friday with a warm front. Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected during the day, and again overnight as a strong cold front sweeps through Michigan. There is a chance thunderstorms could become severe, with chances greatest near the Ohio border.
Risks include lightning, heavy down pours and strong winds. There is a weak threat for tornadoes.
Here's a note from Local 4 Caster Brandon Roux: Friday will be a crazy day with a wintry mix in our North Zone early and rain and thunder around Metro Detroit as we wake up. A second round of stronger storms moves in by evening. Temps in the 60s with a cold front approaching equals a Spring Storm Set Up where we may see storms with gusty winds and hail. Stay tuned...
