Storm chance late tonight, slight risk Friday in metro Detroit

DETROITSevere thunderstorm warnings issued Thursday night for Oakland and Livingston Counties have expired.

----

This has been a challenging forecast week to say the least.

Tonight is no different. And our nighttime thunderstorm threat is evolving as I type this. We send out the latest updates on severe weather threats via push alerts from our Local 4Casters app and our ClickOnDetroit app.

As of now we're focused on a storm potential to be closer to midnight, and mainly from damaging winds. Western counties are more likely to see storms than eastsiders. We'll be tracking the threat throughout the night.

Friday forecast:

Tomorrow most of the widespread rain will be north of the area, but again we're under a slight risk for severe weather. And this time it's the entire viewing area. We're focused on the afternoon hours for our greatest storm potential. Damaging winds again will be the greatest threat.

Temperatures will spike well into the 80s with higher humidity, giving us plenty of unstable air. This is right before a cold front slices through providing the lift for storms. We should see any storms diminish before sunset tomorrow.

Weekend forecast:

The weekend is still looking mainly dry with Sunday afternoon/evening being our only shower and thunderstorm chance. Temperatures will be seasonable with highs near 80 both days. Expect higher humidity on Sunday.

Next week:

Early next week it looks like we'll get a break from these thunderstorm chances Tuesday and Wednesday. But they won't be far away from us in northern Indiana and Ohio. So this could change again by the weekend. Temperatures will warm up slightly.

So these two days are actually looking pretty summerlike (which officially starts on Sunday June 21 at 12:38 PM). Thursday brings a chance of storms back to the area.
