Ann Arbor’s Motawi Tileworks to host annual tile workshops, art sale in July

ANN ARBOR – Make a personalized masterpiece at Motawi Tileworks during its annual Make-a-Tile workshop on Saturday, July 22.

Community members can carve their own tiles from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the Enterprise Dr. art studio. Tiles will be glazed in a turquoise color.

Participants are limited to three tiles. The first tile costs $15, and $20 for each additional tile.

Motawi Tileworks will also have Medieval rabbit tile that participants can glaze, then watch as tiles are fired with a Japanese ceramics technique called Raku. Community members can buy one rabbit tile for $20.

There will also be an indoor art sale with ceramics, jewelry, woodwork and mixed-media works, among other forms of art, created by Motawi artisans. The studio’s gallery shop and discounted tile Boneyard will be open during the event.
