Ann Arbor firefighters rescue missing woman and child near Huron River

Firefighters are urging Ann Arbor residents to always wear a life jacket when near the Huron River after rescuing a missing child and woman.
Around 4:39 p.m. on Saturday, first responders mobilizing teams to search for a missing child were notified of a missing kayaker.

Officials said a rescue boat was launched at Gallup Park while other search teams were set up along the river.
The child was found on the shore near Nichols Driver and reunited with their family at Argo. The rescue boat then found the kayaker by the Dixboro Dam.
“The Huron River is running fast and high due to recent rain,” Ann Arbor Fire Department officials wrote on social media. “WEAR A LIFE JACKET if on the Huron River. An inner tube is NOT a substitute for a life jacket The Huron River is not a stationary pool or lake. The currents and debris make it hazardous.
