Man’s throat slashed with box cutter during argument in downtown Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly slashing another man’s throat during an argument.

It happened at Liberty Plaza in Ann Arbor at about 11 p.m., Monday, July 7.

According to authorities, a 58-year-old man had gotten into an argument with another man, who then took out a box cutter and slashed the victim’s throat. The victim was rushed to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Police were able to identify the suspect as 30-year-old Kimani Hamilton, who was taken into custody the next day.

Hamilton was charged with assault with intent to murder on Wednesday, July 9. His bond was set at $500,000 and he remains lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail.

On 7/7/25 at approximately 11pm, officers responded to Liberty Plaza (310 S. Division St.) for a report of a stabbing. Responding officers rendered aid to a 58-year-old male at the scene who was found with a slash wound to his neck. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect had fled the area before officers arrived.Preliminary investigation revealed the 58-year-old victim had a verbal altercation with the male suspect. The suspect then produced a box cutter and slashed the victim’s throat.The suspect was identified as Kimani Hamilton, 30, of Ann Arbor. Hamilton was taken into custody without incident on 7/8/25.Hamilton was charged with assault with intent to murder and was arraigned on 7/9/25 at 14A-1 District Court. His bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety. He remains lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail.
