“Winning 10 games is a huge deal. So, we’re going to do everything we can to put ourselves in the best position this month as we go to and as we travel down there to Orlando,” Moore said.

Moore described the bowl setting as a “beautiful environment, beautiful venue” and stressed the team’s goal of winning and improving.

Texas

He acknowledged the challenge Texas presents, noting some differences from last year’s team but highlighting their talent.

“A little bit different, a little less experience, but still a lot of talent. A lot of guys that we played last year, played this year,” Moore said.

Moore praised Texas quarterback Arch Manning and the team’s skilled players, as well as their offensive scheme under head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“They do a really good job scheme-wise and defensively, they’re fast, they’re physical, good up front,” Moore added.

Justice Haynes

When asked about Michigan player Justice Haynes‘s availability for the bowl game, Moore said his progress was positive but that clarity would come as the week progressed.

Playing high-profile games

Moore also discussed the risks and rewards of playing high-profile games, such as those against Oklahoma or Texas vs. Ohio State.

“For our student-athletes and for our coaches, that’s why you come to Michigan,” said Moore.

However, he acknowledged that losses in such games can affect teams’ postseason opportunities.

On whether Texas looks like a College Football Playoff-caliber team, Moore responded, “Yeah, I mean, they do. Offensively, they’re explosive. They got playmakers all over the place.”

Potential opt-outs

Regarding player participation and potential opt-outs, Moore said the team expects most players to participate. “There’ll be guys that have already thought about it and what they’re going to do... a lot more playing than not playing,” he said.

Moore also spoke about the recent hire of Kerry Coombs, praising his energy, experience at multiple levels, and recruiting skills.

“He’s going to do a great job for us,” Moore said.

On the topic of player incentives to participate in bowl games, Moore emphasized the importance of players wanting to play for the love of the game rather than contractual incentives.

Moore addressed the importance of playing in the bowl game despite some programs opting out.

“Another opportunity to go play football, especially against a great opponent on a great stage, is just another opportunity, and why you’ve come to places like this,” Moore said.

Chomping at the bit

Following the Ohio State loss, Moore said the team was disappointed but motivated.

“Guys are chomping at the bit to get back to work, to make sure they get their minds right and their bodies right to the game,” Moore said.

Moore confirmed that newly-hired special teams coordinator Coombs has joined the staff and will coach in the bowl game.

Regarding player Jordan Marshall, Moore said he fought through injury and will be ready for the game.

Regarding player Ernest Hausmann, Moore noted that he is dealing with personal matters and a thumb injury sustained in the Northwestern game, but that the program is supporting him.
