Faulty hydrant briefly delays response to downtown Ann Arbor parking garage fire

Functioning hydrant found nearby, no injuries reported

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A vehicle fire at a downtown Ann Arbor parking garage destroyed one vehicle and damaged another.

It happened Monday, March 9, at about 4:30 p.m. at the Liberty Square parking structure on Washington Street.

According to authorities, firecrews initially encountered a broken hydrant at the scene, but were able to find a functioning one nearby and extinguish the car.

Firefighters believe the fire started due to a mechanical or electrical problem in the engine compartment. It was parked for about 30 minutes before the fire was discovered.

The vehicle was destroyed and a nearby car was damaged in the fire.

No injuries were reported.
