ANN ARBOR, MICH. – Fresh off capturing the first NCAA Tournament championship victory since 1989, Michigan Wolverines star Yaxel Lendeborg is turning his attention to the next chapter of his career: the NBA draft.
The Big Ten Player of the Year joined “NBA Today” on Wednesday (April 15), reflecting on a whirlwind stretch that included a title victory, a championship parade, and the beginning of his transition to the professional ranks.

“It has to be the parade,” Lendeborg said when asked about his favorite moment. “A lot of people showed up. They were being very energetic, very nice, very genuine. I actually got to sign a couple of autographs, too, and meet some kids. That was definitely my favorite part.”
With the celebration behind him, Lendeborg is now focused on preparing for the NBA draft, set for June 23.
The senior from Michigan said the opportunity brings both excitement and nerves as he looks to take the next step in his basketball career.
“I’m super excited, very nervous,” Lendeborg said. “This is something I’ve been working on for these last four or five years. I’m really ready to turn the page now, just making sure that when I get there, I’ll be able to stay and make a name for myself.”
Lendeborg previously tested the draft process last season before returning to school and signing with head coach Dusty May and the men in maize, a decision he said helped him grow both on and off the court.
“Honestly, it was more so me getting the nerves out,” Lendeborg said. “I definitely learned what I need to do as far as being a player. Off the court, I’ve been learning a lot, just being more professional with my mindset and everyday approach.”

Lendeborg credited his trainer and his mother as key support systems throughout the process, helping him navigate the mental challenges of preparing for the next level.
The dream of reaching the NBA, Lendeborg said, has been years in the making, and now feels within reach.
“It’s hard to get there. It’s very hard,” Lendeborg said. “The fact that it’s so close, it definitely makes me emotional a lot of times. There’s been many times I felt like I didn’t belong. So being able to actually have an opportunity to get drafted means the world to me.”
As for where he might land, Lendeborg said he is open to any opportunity and prepared to adapt to different systems at the next level.
“I would be happy for any opportunity,” Lendeborg said. “I’m just ready to go in there and provide a spark for any team that drafts me.”
Lendeborg also expressed interest in potential matchups at the next level, including facing top young talent such as Cooper Flagg.
“I definitely want to see how I translate and how I’ll be able to guard somebody like my height that can do so much so well,” Lendeborg said.
For now, the focus remains on preparation and embracing a moment he has worked toward for years.
