The Promotions Manager is responsible for leading the creative development of promotional campaigns that grow audience engagement and strengthen the Local 4 brand across on-air, digital, and social platforms. This role requires strong news judgment, creative leadership, and expertise in multi-platform marketing. The ideal candidate has proven expertise in broadcast promotions, digital strategy, and team leadership, and is passionate about innovative storytelling in a fast-paced news environment. The Promotions Manager reports to the Creative Services Director.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Supervise the daily production of news promotions, managing producers, editors, and photographers.
- Develop and execute multi-platform promotional campaigns supporting news coverage, special projects, and brand initiatives.
- Drive creative efforts while aligning creative execution with brand strategy for all platforms.
- Attend daily news meetings, meet with producers to determine stories to promote, proofread scripts and place spots on various platforms.
- Execute promotional shoots around Metro Detroit and in studio.
- Collaborate with the Creative Services Director on marketing plans.
- Coordinate with all departments to ensure that a unified brand is presented to viewers.
- Develop plans for promotion and assign producers and /or editors to execute plans.
- Conceptualize, coordinate and produce news image campaigns for the news station.
- Work on creative content with producers, editors, and designers. It is essential to understand the fundamentals of graphic design.
- Attend research sessions and use learned research in promotional campaigns and help create marketing strategies from learned research.
- Manage trafficking promotional logs and co-manage promotional inventory using WideOrbit.
- Plan and execute digital and social media promotional campaigns, properly post creative on appropriate platforms.
- Build promotion schedules, maintain promotional inventory and schedule promos on-air.
- Attend and assist at station events.
- Assist with outside advertising and maintain relationships with affiliate marketing clients and syndicators.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in broadcast promotions or creative services, preferably in local television news.
- Strong writing, producing, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Experience with creating and executing digital, social media, and over the top (OTT) marketing strategies.
- Experience leading projects or supervising creative teams.
- Experience producing news image campaigns.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners in a professional and creative capacity.
- Valid driver’s license & clean driving record required.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or journalism preferred.
- 2 + years of experience in a leadership or management role preferred.
- Premiere editing experience preferred.
- Experience trafficking promotional logs and inventory using Wide Orbit preferred.
