'Women of Distinction' Award given to 18 outstanding community leaders

DETROIT – Our Rhonda Walker received the Women of Distinction Award Sunday at the Historic Little Rock Baptist Church High Tea High Heels celebration. The award was given to 18 outstanding community leaders that have dedicated their lives to helping make Detroit a better place for children.

Who else received the award?

The award recipients include U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, city of Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence, community activist Delores Bennett, and Detroit Free Press Journalist Rochelle Riley just to name a few.

Why Rhonda Walker was chosen

Rhonda was honored for her work with the charity she founded 9 years ago for inner city teen girls in her name the Rhonda Walker Foundation. This organizations core program Girls into Women is a 5 year career and personal development program that targets teen girls from the 8th through 12th grade with workshops, seminars, retreats and field trips. The program has a 100% high school graduation rate, 100% college enrollment rate and a 100% college graduation among the Detroit Public Schools kids that complete the 5 year program.
