Tapper's, Morgan Stanley, Local 4 hosting coat drive

For most, fall in southeastern Michigan is a favorite time of year. Families will enjoy football games, cider and donuts, pumpkin carving and new fall clothing. But for those who are challenged to meet basic needs, fall signals a precursor to winter where a warm coat is an unaffordable luxury.

Tapper's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry seeks to help metro-Detroiters stay warm this winter by hosting its 23^rd annual Coat Drive, presented by Morgan Stanley and WDIV Local 4, October 1-November 16, 2014.

Tapper's, in affiliation with Morgan Stanley and WDIV Local 4, will accept gently used or new coats, hats, mittens and blankets, as well as cash donations for new coats at locations throughout the metro area.

"We are thrilled Morgan Stanley and WDIV will again support our efforts to collect more than 3,500 coats for those in need," says Steven Tapper, custom designer and vice president of Tapper's Diamonds & Fine Jewelry. "We urge metro-Detroiters to clean out their closets during our coat drive and to give the gift of warmth and comfort this fall. This community effort will change lives in unimaginable ways."

Tapper's will also collect funds online at www.gofundme.com/2014coatdrive.

Cash donations raised here and at all Tapper's, Marlee's and Morgan Stanley locations will go toward the purchase of brand-new coats. A $20 donation will provide a child with a coat and gloves.

Coats and warm winter items in all shapes are sizes are welcome. Tapper's handles distributing winter items – free of charge – directly to local residents in need and the organizations that support them. It is estimated the Tapper's coat drive has provided more than 40,800 winter items to metro-Detroit area families throughout the years.
