Booming Detroit business offers unique money-making opportunity

MyLocker is a top e-commerce website known for its customized apparel like sweats, t-shirts, and hoodies. The company packed up shop in Warren last year and opened new doors in Detroit. The new location is 120,000 square feet.

There is no denying where MyLocker's new home is. The walls are painted to look like the Spirit of Detroit and Jow Louis fist. Detroit graffiti artist Antonio "Shades" Agee covered the space's interior walls with floor to ceiling murals that reflect Detroit's industrial style.

Though the company doesn't have a storefront per se, it's become an integral part of Detroit's growing business district in Corktown, working with more than 5,000 schools across the country.

"It expanded from that into everything like fire departments, dance studios, businesses ... you name it and we've created an experience for it," says MyLocker CEO Robert Hake.

The expansion of MyLocker is a win-win for Detroit. Robert plans to hire about 40 seasonal positions and about 25 percent of the temporary staff will stay with the company full-time. Employee or not, you can make money from customizing apparel on their website.

"It's free. They can go on and create an online shop and they can share it with their community and earn money from it," says Hake.

The new Corktown headquarters located at Rosa Parks and Abbott is nearly a city block long and includes a two-story office connected to wide-open production and distribution buildings, as well as more space for future expansion.
