Detroit Zoo adds new features to Wild Lights holiday display

Event opens Nov. 18

Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo features more than 5 million lights and 230 lighted animal sculptures.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Wild Lights, an annual holiday light display at the Detroit Zoo, returns for the season Nov. 18.

The bright walk-through will feature more than 5 million lights and 230 lighted animal sculptures.

New features have been added for the fifth year of the event, including nearly 600 light tubes that sway to music, an Antarctic-themed projection on the Polk Penguin Conservation Center and a bug display. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition will also be on display.

Additional tickets can be purchased to see “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer 4-D” or for an ice skating session on a 2,400-square-foot ice rink. Tickets for the lights and the movie or the lights and skating are $18.

Carousel rides, refreshments, holiday spirits, zoo-themed gifts and photos with Santa Claus will be available to purchase.

There will also be a booth where children can make holiday cards for pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Wild Lights is Nov. 18-19, Nov. 24-26 and Dec. 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 20-23 and 26-31.
