DETROIT – Summer break is a time for fun, and no child should have to worry about where their next meal is going to come from.
Around 300,000 students in Southeast Michigan may rely on school-provided breakfast and lunch to eat during the school year. When school is out for the summer, these kids run the risk of not having access to those meals.

Gleaners, along with their donors, like Kroger, strive to bridge that gap and supply those meals to students.
You can help us Go 4 It on Monday, June 30. Gleaners will host an event at its Taylor location, and we are looking for volunteers to help assemble meal kits for children and families facing hunger.

Gleaners distributes meals through its network of nearly 350 partners to five Southeast Michigan counties; Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, and Monroe. On average, they distribute over 120,000 meals per day.
To help accomplish these efforts, last year alone, community members completed more than 25,000 volunteer shifts, totaling more than 56,000 hours of volunteer service.
In Southeast Michigan, one in every five kids faces hunger, and the goal of the Go 4 It Hunger Free Summer event is to help feed as many kids and families as possible.
A Hunger Free Summer is a hands-on campaign that volunteers make happen.
If you wish to make a donation instead of volunteering, Gleaners can turn every dollar into six meals because of a matching fund available through Aug. 31.
