The Arab American National Museum’s Growth Center @ AANM has partnered with the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) for the Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program: Detroit.

Running March - June 2018, the program offers Detroit-based immigrant artists from all disciplines (performing, literary, visual, multi-disciplinary, folk and traditional arts) the opportunity to focus on their creative practice and gain support and exposure for their work while upholding their distinct cultural identities. Featured topics will include strategic planning, finance, law, marketing and fundraising.
The program is competitive and provided free of charge to accepted participants. The application deadline is Monday, Jan. 22, 2018; refugees are encouraged to apply. Sessions will take place at the Arab American National Museum, 13624 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn.
An extension of NYFA’s successful Immigrant Artist Program in New York, Detroit joins San Antonio, Newark and Oakland, Ca. as new host cities for this impactful program. NYFA's Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program is the only known program of its kind in the United States, and has provided close to 200 New York City-based immigrants with mentorship, community and exposure for their work since it was founded in 2007.
“The Growth Center @ AANM is proud to provide an inclusive, safe space for immigrant artists in Detroit that may not have access to these resources otherwise,” says Growth Center Supervisor Audrey Ramadan. “It is important for immigrants from our community to get mentorship that supports and uplifts their artistic endeavors.”
Presented by NYFA in collaboration with the Arab American National Museum (AANM), Creative Many, Allied Media Projects, Global Detroit and Powerhouse Productions, the program consists of two weekend-long entrepreneurial boot camps, one-on-one mentoring, informal gatherings and individual follow-up consultations. All classes, workshops and meetings will be conducted in English.
Eligibility:
- Applicant must live in the Detroit area. Priority will be given to artists living and working in the city of Detroit.
- Applicant or their parents must have been born outside of the United States. (This includes the United States territories i.e. Puerto Rico, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands). Refugees encouraged to apply.
- Students currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program are not eligible.
