What if your phone could tell you if people are telling the truth?

Developers working on a smartphone lie detector app

Liars may be able to fool a lot of people, but will they be able to get one past their smartphones?  A technology company is developing a lie detector app that could be used by parents, teachers, even internet daters.

The app's developers at Toronto start-up NuraLogix say daters could benefit from the app because they can see if somebody really is interested in them. Parents and teachers could also use the app to determine if children are telling the truth.

How It Works

The app measures blood flow in the face to determine if you're telling the truth.

The idea behind the app is that different human emotions create unique facial blood flow patterns. A 2015 study found anger to be associated with more blood flow and redness, while sadness was associated with less of both.  These patterns also correspond when a person is telling the truth, or telling a lie

The app will utilize software that sees changes in skin color from footage from the smartphone camera and compare them to standardized results.
